The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, has urged all Members of Parliament (MPs) to donate to the COVID-19 Belief Fund to assist the efforts of the government within the struggle against the pandemic.
He made the decision after he had donated half of his wage for the subsequent three months to the fund, arrange by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to assist the weak and needy who’ve been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A memo from Parliament stated the Speaker additionally announced that Parliament had, as a body, donated GH¢200,000 to the fund.
Government exhibits the way
Parliament is the second arm of presidency to have donated to the fund, after President Akufo-Addo, representing the Government, donated his wage for the subsequent three months in a message to Ghanaians on March 20.
The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, followed suit by donating his wage for the subsequent three months, whereas all government appointees, made up of ministers and workers of the Presidency, additionally donated half of their salaries for 3 months.
