The long-awaited Ghana National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (GNEPP) has been formally inaugurated by the Ghanaian government.

The platform successfully completed a pilot in July 2022, and on January 3, 2023, it was made publicly available.

The platform, which was developed by the Pharmacy Council of Ghana in collaboration with PSGH, FDA, HEFRA, MDC, NMC, and Allied Health, will assist in facilitating safe and secure access to medications and pharmaceutical services in Ghana through internet-based applications like online pharmacies, websites, social media, and e-commerce platforms.

Features of the e-Pharmacy Platform

  • The platform will make sure that only authorized electronic pharmacies and electronic pharmacy service providers operating in Ghana who adhere to the requirements distribute medications via the Internet or Internet-based apps.
  • Additionally, users can upload their prescriptions via a USSD code or the platform.
  • Users will be able to place an online order for their medication, pay for it online, and either have it delivered to their home using a digital address or pick it up at their neighborhood drugstore.
  • Apps or solutions offered by e-Pharmacy platforms can be registered online.
