Vendors selling pre-registered SIM cards could spend 5 years in prison

The Communications Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has announced that vendors found guilty of selling pre-registered SIM cards could land themselves in jail.

In a press statement, Mrs. Ursula warned vendors to desist from selling pre-registered SIM’s, else they could face up to five years imprisonment.

The Ministry also noted that National Communications Authority (NCA) has been tasked to conduct investigations into such matters.

“Let me remind all SIM card vendors that it is an offense to pre-register and sell SIM cards. The NCA has been directed to conduct mystery shopping and enforce the law against those miscreants. If found guilty, they could be imprisoned for up to five years,” part of the statement reads.
