Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekurful, has warned that all sim cards that are not re-registered by March 31, 2022, will be blocked.
In a post on her social media handle, the Minister announced that the SIM re-registration will commence on October 1, 2021 and will end within a span of six months.
During a press conference, she said the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation will launch the National SIM Card Registration Exercise across the country next month, which will allow the country to monitor and track down persons who use their phones for criminal activities, as well as rid the country’s cyberspace of fraud.
The National Identity Card (Ghana Card) issued to an individual shall be used for registration of SIM cards of Citizens, foreign residents and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days and also foreigners staying in Ghana for less than 90 days will use a valid passport or other travel document.
