The government will on February 18, 2020 launch a cellular utility to enable customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to purchase prepaid credit by way of mobile phones instantly without having to go to sales points.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who introduced this at a Town Hall Meeting in Kumasi Tuesday, [February 11, 2020], mentioned the mobile app would assist to remove the stress ECG customers undergo in getting prepaid credit particularly, at night time.
“You can buy units for others as well,” he said, adding that “now people will be calling you to buy credit for them.”
Dr Bawumia mentioned the government’s resolve to digitise Ghana’s economy was to get rid of all inefficiencies and corruption within the system.
That, he added, would assist Ghana to reap the advantages of digitisation, saying “Digitisation is going to reduce a lot of inefficiency and corruption.”
